Cp. kathairesis, &#8220;a pulling down,&#8221; <span class='bible'>2Co 10:4<\/span>, <span class='bible'>2Co 10:8<\/span>; <span class='bible'>2Co 13:10<\/span>. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p> akin to A, lit. and primarily, &#8220;to turn down&#8221; or &#8220;turn over,&#8221; as, e.g., the soil, denotes to &#8220;overturn, overthrow,&#8221; <span class='bible'>Mat 21:12<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Mar 11:15<\/span>; in <span class='bible'>Act 15:16<\/span>, Passive Voice, &#8220;ruins,&#8221; lit., &#8220;the overthrown (things) of it&#8221; (some mss. have kataskapto, &#8220;to dig down&#8221;). See RUIN. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p> is found in some mss. in <span class='bible'>Joh 2:15<\/span> (see No. 3). See ABIDE, No. 8. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p> lit., &#8220;to turn up or over&#8221; (ana, &#8220;up,&#8221; trepo, &#8220;to turn&#8221;), &#8220;to upset,&#8221; is used (a) literally, in the most authentic mss., in <span class='bible'>Joh 2:15<\/span> (see No. 2); (b) metaphorically, in <span class='bible'>2Ti 2:18<\/span>, &#8220;overthrow (the faith of some);&#8221; in <span class='bible'>Tit 1:11<\/span>, RV, &#8220;overthrow (whole houses),&#8221; AV, &#8220;subvert &#8230;,&#8221; i.e., households. Moulton and Milligan (Vocab.) give an apt illustration from a 2nd cent. papyrus, of the complete upsetting of a family by the riotous conduct of a member. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p> lit., &#8220;to loosen down,&#8221; signifies &#8220;to overthrow&#8221; in <span class='bible'>Act 5:38<\/span>, RV, &#8220;it will be overthrown&#8221; (AV, &#8220;it will come to nought&#8221;); <span class='bible'>Rom 14:20<\/span>, RV, &#8220;overthrow&#8221; (AV, &#8220;destroy&#8221;).
