{"id":75465,"date":"2022-09-29T06:59:31","date_gmt":"2022-09-29T11:59:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.biblia.work\/dictionaries\/piece\/"},"modified":"2022-09-29T06:59:31","modified_gmt":"2022-09-29T11:59:31","slug":"piece","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.biblia.work\/dictionaries\/piece\/","title":{"rendered":"Piece"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Piece<\/h2>\n<p>PIECE.Piece is used in AV [Note: Authorized Version.]  for (1) a measure equal to a firkin (1Es 8:20 an hundred pieces of wine); (2) an instrument of war (1Ma 6:51 pieces to cast darts, and slings).<\/p>\n<h4 align='right'><i><b>Fuente: Hastings&#8217; Dictionary of the Bible<\/b><\/i><\/h4>\n<h2>Piece<\/h2>\n<p>pes: In the King James Version the word (singular and plural) represents a large number of different Hebrew words, many of which have more or less the same significance, e.g. piece of meat or flesh (Gen 15:10; 2Sa 6:19; Eze 24:4); of bread or cake (1Sa 2:36; 1Sa 30:12; Jer 37:21); of ground or land (2Sa 23:11); of wall (Neh 3:11, Neh 3:19 ff); of an ear (Amo 3:12); of cloth or garment (1Ki 11:30); of millstone (Jdg 9:53). It is used frequently in paraphrastic renderings of various Hebrew verbs: break, tear, cut, etc., in pieces (Gen 44:28, etc.).<\/p>\n<p>In the New Testament piece renders , epblema, piece or patch of cloth (Mat 9:16; Mar 2:21; Luk 5:36). It is also found in paraphrastic renderings &#8211; broken in pieces (Mar 5:4), pulled in pieces (Act 23:10).<\/p>\n<h4 align='right'><i><b>Fuente: International Standard Bible Encyclopedia<\/b><\/i><\/h4>\n<h2>Piece<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<p> primariy denotes &#8220;that which is thrown over, a cover&#8221; (epi, &#8220;over,&#8221; ballo, &#8220;to throw&#8221;); then, &#8220;that which is put on, or sewed on, to cover a rent, a patch,&#8221; <span class='bible'>Mat 9:16<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Mar 2:21<\/span>; in the next sentence, RV, &#8220;that which should fill&#8221; (AV, &#8220;the new piece that filled&#8221;), there is no word representing &#8220;piece&#8221; (lit., &#8220;the filling,&#8221; pleroma); see FILL, B: <span class='bible'>Luk 5:36<\/span>. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p> a drachma, firstly, &#8220;an Attic weight,&#8221; as much as one can hold in the hand (connected with drassomai, &#8220;to grasp with the hand, lay hold of,&#8221; <span class='bible'>1Co 3:19<\/span>), then, &#8220;a coin,&#8221; nearly equal to the Roman denarius (see PENNY), is translated &#8220;pieces of silver&#8221; in <span class='bible'>Luk 15:8<\/span>, 1st part; &#8220;piece,&#8221; 2nd part and <span class='bible'>Luk 15:9<\/span>. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p> &#8220;a part,&#8221; is translated &#8220;a piece (of a broiled fish)&#8221; in <span class='bible'>Luk 24:42<\/span>. See BEHALF, PART. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p> &#8220;a broken piece&#8221; (from klao, &#8220;to break&#8221;) is used of the broken pieces from the feeding of the multitudes, RV, &#8220;broken pieces,&#8221; AV, &#8220;fragments,&#8221; <span class='bible'>Mat 14:20<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Mar 6:43<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Mar 8:19-20<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Luk 9:17<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Joh 6:12-13<\/span>; in <span class='bible'>Mat 15:37<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Mar 8:8<\/span>, RV, &#8220;broken pieces&#8221; (AV, &#8220;broken meat&#8221;). <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p> which frequently denotes &#8220;money,&#8221; also represents &#8220;a silver coin,&#8221; of the value of a shekel or tetradrachmon (four times the drachme, see No. 2); it is used in the plural in <span class='bible'>Mat 26:15<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Mat 27:3-9<\/span>. In <span class='bible'>Act 19:19<\/span>, &#8220;fifty thousand of silver&#8221; is, lit., &#8220;fifty thousand of silver&#8221; (probably drachmas). See MONEY, SILVER. <\/p>\n<p> Notes: (1) In <span class='bible'>Act 27:44<\/span>, for AV, &#8220;broken pieces,&#8221; the RV translates epi (&#8220;on&#8221;) tinon (&#8220;certain things&#8221;) ton (&#8220;the,&#8221; i.e., &#8220;those namely&#8221;) by &#8220;on other things;&#8221; there is no word in the original representing &#8220;pieces.&#8221; (2) For the phrase &#8220;to break to (in) pieces,&#8221; <span class='bible'>Mat 21:44<\/span>, RV, and <span class='bible'>Mar 5:4<\/span>, see BREAK, A, Nos. 10 and 5 respectively.
