This room in the Tabernacle measured 20 X 10 cubits (about 30 X 15 feet); that of the Temple was 40 X 20 cubits. Whilst only a heavy screen of rich tapestry, hanging from five wooden posts, extended on the whole front of the Tabernacle, in the first Temple a double folding door of cypress wood with doorposts of olive wood closed the holy place from the porch. A veil probably covered this door in Herod&#8217;s temple. Inside the holy place, just in front of the veil screening the entrance of the holy of holies, stood the altar of incense; along the north wall stood the table of the shewbread, and the ten lamp-stands, five on the right side and five on the left, which seem to have superseded the seven-branched lamp-stand of the Tabernacle.
