Translated in the Vulgate as Ecclesiastes. As a personal title it refers to Solomon, the Son of David, King of Jerusalem, regarded as a herald of Divine wisdom proclaiming truths on the proper estimate of earthly things. Many have seen herein an indication that the wise though voluptuous king returned to God before his death. <\/p>\n
“a herald” (akin to A, No. 2 and B, above), is used (a) of the “preacher” of the Gospel, 1Ti 2:7<\/span>; 2Ti 1:11<\/span>; (b) of Noah, as a “preacher” of righteousness, 2Pe 2:5<\/span>. <\/p>\n Notes: (1) For “a preacher,” in Rom 10:14<\/span>, where the verb kerusso is used, see PREACH, A, No. 2.
