{"id":78835,"date":"2022-09-29T08:40:03","date_gmt":"2022-09-29T13:40:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.biblia.work\/dictionaries\/reason-verb\/"},"modified":"2022-09-29T08:40:03","modified_gmt":"2022-09-29T13:40:03","slug":"reason-verb","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.biblia.work\/dictionaries\/reason-verb\/","title":{"rendered":"Reason (Verb)"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Reason (Verb)<\/h2>\n<\/p>\n<p> &#8220;to bring together different reasons and reckon them up, to reason,&#8221; is used in the NT (a) chiefly of thoughts and considerations which are more or less objectionable, e.g., of the disciples who &#8220;reasoned&#8221; together, through a mistaken view of Christ&#8217;s teaching regarding leaven, <span class='bible'>Mat 16:7-8<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Mar 8:16-17<\/span>; of their &#8220;reasoning&#8221; as to who was the greatest among them, <span class='bible'>Mar 9:33<\/span>, RV, &#8220;were ye reasoning,&#8221; AV, &#8220;ye disputed&#8221; (for <span class='bible'>Mar 9:34<\/span>, see DISPUTE); of the scribes and Pharisees in criticizing Christ&#8217;s claim to forgive sins, <span class='bible'>Mar 2:6<\/span>, <span class='bible'>Mar 2:8<\/span> (twice); <span class='bible'>Luk 5:21-22<\/span>; of the chief priests and elders in considering how to answer Christ&#8217;s question regarding John&#8217;s baptism, <span class='bible'>Mat 21:25<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Mar 11:31<\/span> (some mss. have logizomai, here, which is nowhere else rendered &#8220;to reason&#8221;); of the wicked husbandmen, and their purpose to murder the heir and sieze his inheritasnce, <span class='bible'>Luk 20:14<\/span>; of the rich man who &#8220;reasoned&#8221; within himself, RV (AV, &#8220;thought&#8221;), as to where to bestow his fruits, <span class='bible'>Luk 12:17<\/span> (some mss. have it in <span class='bible'>Joh 11:50<\/span>, the best have logizomai; see ACCOUNT, No. 4); (b) of considerations not objectionable, <span class='bible'>Luk 1:29<\/span>, &#8220;cast in (her) mind;&#8221; <span class='bible'>Luk 3:15<\/span>, RV, and AV, marg., &#8220;reasoned&#8221; (AV, &#8220;mused&#8221;). See CAST, No. 15, DISPUTE, B, No. 2. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p> &#8220;to think different things with oneself, to ponder,&#8221; then, &#8220;to dispute with others,&#8221; is translated &#8220;to reason&#8221; in <span class='bible'>Act 17:2<\/span>, AV and RV; <span class='bible'>Act 17:17<\/span>, RV; <span class='bible'>Act 18:4<\/span>, <span class='bible'>Act 18:19<\/span>, AV and RV; <span class='bible'>Act 19:8-9<\/span>, RV; <span class='bible'>Act 24:25<\/span>, AV and RV; <span class='bible'>Heb 12:5<\/span>, RV, &#8220;reasoneth (with you),&#8221; AV, &#8220;speaketh (unto you).&#8221; See DISPUTE, B, No. 1. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p> &#8220;to compute&#8221; (sun, &#8220;with,&#8221; and logizomai; cp. Eng., &#8220;syllogism&#8221;), also denotes &#8220;to reason,&#8221; and is so rendered in <span class='bible'>Luk 20:5<\/span>. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p> &#8220;to seek or examine together&#8221; (sun, &#8220;with,&#8221; zeteo, &#8220;to seek&#8221;), &#8220;to discuss,&#8221; is translated &#8220;reasoning&#8221; in <span class='bible'>Mar 12:28<\/span>, AV (RV, &#8220;questioning&#8221;); similarly in <span class='bible'>Luk 24:15<\/span>.
