See DESPISE. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p> properly, &#8220;to do away&#8221; with what has been laid down, to make atheton (i.e., &#8220;without place,&#8221; a, negative, tithemi, &#8220;to place&#8221;), hence, besides its meanings &#8220;to set aside, make void, nullify, disannul,&#8221; signifies &#8220;to reject;&#8221; in <span class='bible'>Mar 6:26<\/span>, regarding Herod&#8217;s pledge to Salome, it almost certainly has the meaning &#8220;to break faith with&#8221; (cp. the Sept. of <span class='bible'>Jer 12:6<\/span>, and <span class='bible'>Lam 1:2<\/span>, &#8220;dealt treacherously&#8221;). Moulton and Milligan illustrate this meaning from the papyri. Field suggests &#8220;disappoint.&#8221; In <span class='bible'>Mar 7:9<\/span> &#8220;ye reject (the commandment)&#8221; means &#8220;ye set aside;&#8221; in <span class='bible'>Luk 7:30<\/span>, &#8220;ye reject&#8221; may have the meaning of &#8220;nullifying or making void the counsel of God;&#8221; in <span class='bible'>Luk 10:16<\/span> (four times), &#8220;rejecteth,&#8221; RV (AV, &#8220;despiseth&#8221;); &#8220;rejecteth&#8221; in <span class='bible'>Joh 12:48<\/span>; &#8220;reject&#8221; in <span class='bible'>1Co 1:19<\/span> (AV, &#8220;bring to nothing&#8221;); <span class='bible'>1Th 4:8<\/span>, &#8220;to despise,&#8221; where the reference is to the charges in <span class='bible'>1Th 4:2<\/span>; in <span class='bible'>1Ti 5:12<\/span> RV, &#8220;have rejected&#8221; (AV, &#8220;have cast off&#8221;). See DESPISE, Notes (1), DISANNUL, No. 1. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p> &#8220;to spit out&#8221; (ek, &#8220;out,&#8221; and ptuo, &#8220;to spit&#8221;), i.e., &#8220;to abominate, loathe,&#8221; is used in <span class='bible'>Gal 4:14<\/span>, &#8220;rejected&#8221; (marg., &#8220;spat out&#8221;), where the sentence is elliptical: &#8220;although my disease repelled you, you did not refuse to hear my message.&#8221; <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p> besides the meanings &#8220;to beg from another,&#8221; <span class='bible'>Mar 15:6<\/span> (in the best texts); &#8220;to entreat that &#8230; not,&#8221; <span class='bible'>Heb 12:19<\/span>; &#8220;to beg off, ask to be excused,&#8221; <span class='bible'>Luk 14:18-19<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Luk 12:25<\/span> (see REFUSE, No. 2), is translated to reject in <span class='bible'>Tit 3:10<\/span>, AV. See EXCUSE, INTREAT, REFUSE. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p> &#8220;not standing the test&#8221; (see CAST, C), is translated &#8220;rejected&#8221; in <span class='bible'>1Co 9:27<\/span>, RV; <span class='bible'>Heb 6:8<\/span>, AV and RV. See REPROBATE. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p> lit., &#8220;cast away&#8221; (apo, &#8220;from,&#8221; ballo, &#8220;to throw&#8221;), occurs in <span class='bible'>1Ti 4:4<\/span>, RV, &#8220;rejected&#8221; (AV, &#8220;refused&#8221;).
