He united with the Church on the  25th of the same month; was licensed to preach Sept. 21, 1839; was received on trial in the Tennessee Conference in 1839, and served as an itinerant preacher thirty-one years. After an illness of a little over three weeks, he died Oct. 29, 1870. Mr. Riggs was an able and judicious officer of the Church; a wise counsellor; modest, firm, and faithful. He was honored by his brethren, and was chosen several times as a delegate to the General Conference. See Minutes of Annual Conferences, M.E.
