See DISEASED, B, No. 1, IMPOTENT, and, especially, WEAK. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p> primarily, &#8220;to work,&#8221; hence, from the effect of constant work, &#8220;to be weary,&#8221; <span class='bible'>Heb 12:3<\/span>, is rendered &#8220;(him) that is sick,&#8221; in <span class='bible'>Jam 5:15<\/span>, RV, AV &#8220;(the) sick.&#8221; The choice of this verb instead of the repetition of No. 1 (<span class='bible'>Jam 5:14<\/span>, see above), is suggestive of the common accompaniment of &#8220;sickness,&#8221; &#8220;weariness of mind&#8221; (which is the meaning of this verb), which not infrequently hinders physical recovery; hence this special cause is here intimated in the general idea of &#8220;sickness.&#8221; In some mss. it occurs in <span class='bible'>Rev 2:3<\/span>. In the Sept., <span class='bible'>Job 10:1<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Job 17:2<\/span>. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p> &#8220;to hold in, hold fast,&#8221; is used, in the Passive Voice, of &#8220;being seized or afficted by ills,&#8221; <span class='bible'>Act 28:8<\/span>, &#8220;sick&#8221; (of the father of Publius, cp. <span class='bible'>Mat 4:24<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Luk 4:38<\/span>, &#8220;taken with&#8221;). See CONSTRAIN, No. 3. <\/p>\n<p> Notes: (1) Noseo, &#8220;to be sick,&#8221; is used metaphorically of mental ailment, in <span class='bible'>1Ti 6:4<\/span>, &#8220;doting&#8221; (marg., &#8220;sick&#8221;). (2) The adverb kakos, &#8220;evilly ill,&#8221; with echo, &#8220;to hold, to have,&#8221; is rendered &#8220;to be sick,&#8221; in <span class='bible'>Mat 4:24<\/span>, RV, &#8220;that were sick;&#8221; <span class='bible'>Mat 8:16<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Mat 9:12<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Mat 14:35<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Mar 1:32<\/span>, RV (AV, &#8220;diseased&#8221;); <span class='bible'>Mar 1:34<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Mar 2:17<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Mar 6:55<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Luk 5:31<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Luk 7:2<\/span>. (3) For &#8220;sick of the palsy,&#8221; <span class='bible'>Luk 5:24<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Act 9:33<\/span>, see PALSY (sick of). <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p> lit., &#8220;without strength,&#8221; hence, &#8220;feeble, weak,&#8221; is used of &#8220;bodily debility,&#8221; <span class='bible'>Mat 25:43<\/span> (for <span class='bible'>Mat 25:39<\/span>, see A, No. 1), <span class='bible'>Mat 25:44<\/span>; some texts have it in <span class='bible'>Luk 9:2<\/span> (the best omit it, the meaning being &#8220;to heal&#8221; in general); <span class='bible'>Luk 10:9<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Act 5:15-16<\/span>; in <span class='bible'>Act 4:9<\/span> it is rendered &#8220;impotent.&#8221; See FEEBLE, IMPOTENT, WEAK. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p> &#8220;feeble, sickly&#8221; (a, negative, rhonnumi, &#8220;to be strong&#8221;), is translated &#8220;sick&#8221; in <span class='bible'>Mat 14:14<\/span>; <span class='bible'>Mar 16:18<\/span>; &#8220;sick folk&#8221; in <span class='bible'>Mar 6:5<\/span>; &#8220;that were sick&#8221; in <span class='bible'>Mar 6:13<\/span>; &#8220;sickly&#8221; in <span class='bible'>1Co 11:30<\/span>, here also of the physical state.
