Torrey Harris (q.v.) in 1858, it became one of the most important and influential movements in America to die in the early 1880&#8217;s with the dispersion of the members who included among others Denton J. Snider, Adolph E. Kroeger, George H. Howison, and Thomas Davidson. It engendered the St. Louis Philosophical Society (founded in Feb., 1866) and the Journal of Speculative Philosophy. Cf. D. S.
