He graduated from Yale College in 1835 and at the Divinity School in 1839, having been a tutor in the college for two years; was ordained pastor of the South Church, Andover, Massachusetts, the last-mentioned year; became professor of theology and homiletics in Andover Theological Seminary in 1868, resigned in 1879, and died there, September 23, 1884. Besides many contributions to the literary journals, he wrote, a Memoir of lion.
