He was Cardinal Pole&#8217;s secretary, and went into exile with him to Italy , in 1538. Nine years later he joined the Theatines , and under Queen Mary returned as Bishop of Saint Asaph; Mary&#8217;s death frustrated his transfer to Oxford, and he went into exile again.
