He pursued his preparatory studies in the Academy at Middlebury, Vt.; graduated at Middlebury College in 1827; studied theology privately; was licensed by the Addison County Association June 30, 1829; ordained by an ecclesiastical council Oct.30, 1829; and became stated supply of the Church in Whitehall, N.Y., Sept. 1, 1830. In 1832 he became pastor of the Congregational Church in Hartford, N. Y.; in 1836 he accepted an agency for the Auburn Theological Seminary; in 1837 became pastor of the  Presbyterian Church in Fayetteville, Onondaga Co., N. Y.; in 1841, of a church at Liverpool, N. Y.; in 1844, of the Congregational Church in Sherburne, Chenango Co., N. Y.; in 1856, of the Church in Paw Paw, Van Buren Co., Mich. in 1859, of the Church in Lapeer, Mich., where he labored until his death, Sept. 24, 1862. Mr. Tuttle was a man of more than ordinary mind, well educated, and popular as a preacher. See Wilson, Presb. Hist.
