He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1843, and from Princeton Theological Seminary in 1845. Though always a pastor, he was chosen four times as a theological professor by the seminaries at Columbia, S.C., Allegheny, Pennsylvania, Oakland, California, and New York city. He died May 25, 1891.
