During the war president Lincoln commissioned him as chaplain in the United States army, and charged him with the religious watch-care of the military hospitals of Baltimore. He died of paralysis, July 31, 1870. Mr. Vinton was devoted, energetic, of spotless reputation, and successful as a minister.
