Wine, or the cup in which it is contained, often represents in Scriptutre the anger of God: &#8220;Thou hast made us drink the wine of astonishment&#8221; (Psa 60:3). &#8220;In the hand of the Lord there is a cup, and the wine is red; it is full of mixture, and he poureth out of the same. But the dregs thereof all the wicked shall wring them out and drink them &#8221; (Psa 75:8). The Lord says to Jeremiah (Jer 25:15), &#8220;Take the wine-cup of this fury at my hand, and cause all the nations to whom I send thee to drink it.&#8221; Elegant forms of drinking-cups are represented on the Assyrian and Egyptian monuments.
