At times the term was applied to the Phoenicians generally. They were renowned for cutting timber and as being fishermen and seamen. Deu 3:9; Jos 13:4; Jos 13:6; Jdg 3:3; Jdg 10:12; Jdg 18:7; 1Ki 5:6; 1Ki 11:1; 1Ki 11:5; 1Ki 11:33; 1Ki 16:31; 2Ki 23:13; 1Ch 22:4; Eze 32:30. The Zidonians were idolators: Baal and Ashtoreth were their gods.
