0084. 80. Called Out of Egypt
80. Called Out of Egypt
Exo_9:1
The call has a double application. It was a call to Pharaoh: “Let My people go that they may serve Me,” and it was a call to the Israelites to get out of Egypt.
1. It was a call based upon God’s covenant with Abraham, to give to him and his seed the promised land—Exo_6:2-4.
2. It was a call of deliverance, for Jehovah had determined to deliver Israel from the burden and bondage of Egypt—Exo_6:5, Exo_6:6.
3. It was a call based on sacrifice, as the whole of Exodus 12 depicts in the Passover ordinance.
4. It was a call based on promise, for Jehovah had said, “I will take you to Me for a people, and I will be to you a God” (Exo_6:7).
5. It was a call associated with what Jehovah calls “a difference” which He put “between the Egyptians and Israel” (Exo_11:7).
6. It was a call illustrating power, for the night of Israel’s deliverance was an exhibition of the right hand of God’s delivering grace for Israel, and His outstretched arm of judgment against the Egyptians—Exo_12:42.
7. It was a call associated with a memorial feast to remind Israel of what Jehovah had done in bringing them out of Egyptian bondage—Exo_12:43-51.
