Saved His City<\/b><\/p>\n
Greek philosopher Anaximenes accompanied Alexander the Great on his expedition against the Persians, in the course of which Alexander\u2019s forces captured Lampsacus, the birthplace of Anaximenes. Anxious to save his native city from destruction, Anaximenes sought an audience with the king. Alexander anticipated his plea: <\/p>\n
\u201cI swear by the Styx I will not grant your request,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy Lord,\u201d calmly replied Anaximenes, \u201cI merely wanted to ask you to destroy Lampsacus.\u201d <\/p>\n
And so he saved his native city. <\/p>\n
