If God is for us, who can be against us<\/i><\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal align=center style='margin-bottom:0cm;margin-bottom:.0001pt; text-align:center;line-height:normal'><i>(Romans 8:31)?<\/i><\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0cm;margin-bottom:.0001pt;text-indent: 18.0pt;line-height:normal'>With today\u2019s text we rejoin Paul in Romans 8 as he discusses the implications of regeneration and God\u2019s providence in our lives. When Paul says that he is responding to something, he is referring to the preceding context, verses 28\u201329. There we have the statement that God foreknew, predestined, called, justified, and glorified certain people. Thus, Paul is showing us what our response to this predestinating God should be.<\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0cm;margin-bottom:.0001pt;text-indent: 18.0pt;line-height:normal'>What is the response we often see to the idea of a predestinating God? All too often we hear strong protest, a reaction against the idea. Even those who do acquiesce to the doctrine of predestination often do so grudgingly, saying things like, \u201cWell, I guess the Bible does teach it, and I guess I have to believe it, but I sure don\u2019t have to like it!\u201d Of course, later on as we mature, we see the matter differently. We begin to see it as Paul saw it.<\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0cm;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height: normal'><b><i>Responding to God\u2019s Predestination<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0cm;margin-bottom:.0001pt;text-indent: 18.0pt;line-height:normal'>Paul sees that divine sovereignty is the ultimate source of comfort for the believer. God is in control of my destiny, and what could be more comforting than that? If God is on our side, who can possibly oppose us? Everyone should know a little Latin, and here is an important Latin phrase for you to learn: <i>Deus pro nobis<\/i> (\u201cDAY-oos pro NO-beece\u201d). It means \u201cGod is for us,\u201d and it summarizes not only this verse but the whole Gospel as presented in the book of Romans.<\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0cm;margin-bottom:.0001pt;text-indent: 18.0pt;line-height:normal'>How do you feel if you know somebody is against you? What if that somebody is a parent, or a teacher, or your boss? How does it feel to know that someone in authority over you, perhaps someone you admire and love, is against you?<\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0cm;margin-bottom:.0001pt;text-indent: 18.0pt;line-height:normal'>Paul tells us that God is not against us, but that He is for us! The omnipotent God, who knows all things and controls all things, is on our side! Now how does <i>that<\/i> make you feel? Whatever else may happen in this world, we know as God\u2019s children that God is for us, and that He intends to glorify us.<\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0cm;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height: normal'><b>CORAM DEO<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:0cm;margin-bottom:.0001pt;line-height: normal'>If God is for you then He has evidently left a trail.
