(December 18, 1707\u2013March 29, 1788), was a prolific hymn writer and theologian, and the brother of John Wesley, founder of Methodism. He wrote an estimated 6,500 hymns, of which 500 are in continual use.<\/p>\n
In 1739, Charles Wesley published his Hymns and Sacred Poems,<\/i> which contained the song, \u201cChrist, the Lord, Is Risen Today\u201d:<\/p>\n

In his hymn, \u201cJesus, Lover of My Soul,\u201d 1740, Charles Wesley wrote:<\/p>\n

Let me to Thy bosom fly,<\/p>\n
While the nearer waters roll,<\/p>\n
While the tempest still is high!<\/p>\n
Hide me, O my Savior, hide,<\/p>\n
Till the storm of life is past;<\/p>\n
Safe into the haven glide,<\/p>\n

In 1742, Charles Wesley wrote \u201cGentle Jesus, Meek and Mild\u201d:<\/p>\n

Look upon a little child;<\/p>\n
Pity my simplicity,<\/p>\n
Suffer me to come to Thee.523<\/p>\n
In 1749, Charles Wesley composed \u201cSoldiers of Christ, Arise\u201d:<\/p>\n

And put your armor on.524<\/p>\n
In the Christmas hymn, 1753, Charles Wesley wrote:<\/p>\n
Hark the herald angels sing,<\/p>\n
Glory to the new-born King;<\/p>\n
Peace on earth, and mercy mild,<\/p>\n
God and sinners reconciled.<\/p>\n
Joyful all ye nations rise,<\/p>\n
Join the triumph of the skies;<\/p>\n
With th\u2019 angelic host proclaim<\/p>\n
