(December 6, 1886\u2013July 30, 1918), was an American poet and journalist, whose famous poem, Trees,<\/i> was first published in the Poetry<\/i> magazine, 1913. He was educated at Rutgers College and Columbia University, and worked for the New York Times.<\/i> His works include: Summer of Love,<\/i> 1911; The Circus and Other Essays,<\/i> 1916; Main Street and Other Poems,<\/i> 1917; and Literature in the Making,<\/i> 1917. He was killed in World War I by a German machine-gun nest along the Ourcq River in France.<\/p>\n
