He was involved in the civil strife in China in the 1920\u2019s, the Republican forces during the Spanish Civil War and the French Resistance during World War II, being captured twice by the Nazi\u2019s. He served as minister of information, 1945\u201346; and minister of cultural affairs, 1959\u201369, under President Charles de Gaulle. <\/p>\n
His works include: The Temptation of the West,<\/i> 1926; The Conquerors; The Human Condition; The Royal Way<\/i>; Man\u2019s Fate,<\/i> 1933; Man\u2019s Hope,<\/i> 1937; Voices of Silence,<\/i> 1951; and Museum without Walls,<\/i> 1967.<\/p>\n
