The history of the Prodigal in Luke 15 is pretty much the history of the Church. Now that she "begins to be in want," she must needs "Arise and go back" to her original sphere of power and prestige. What did those early saints believe?<\/p>\n
1. They believed in the DIVINITY of Jesus Christ, Act_3:16<\/p>\n
2. They believed in the ATONING work of Christ, Act_20:28<\/p>\n
3. They believed in the WORD of Christ, Act_27:25<\/p>\n
4. They believed in the GOSPEL of Christ, Act_8:5<\/p>\n
5. They believed in the NAME of Christ, Act_3:16<\/p>\n
6. They believed in the PRESENCE of Christ, Act_18:9-10<\/p>\n
7. They believed in the POWER OF THE HOLY SPIRIT, Act_1:8, Act_2:38, Act_8:15, Act_10:44-45, Act_11:16, Act_15:8<\/p>\n
II.-APOSTOLIC PRAYER.<\/p>\n
1. They Prayed at stated times, Act_3:1<\/p>\n
2. They Prayed, believing in Much Prayer, Act_6:4<\/p>\n
3. They Prayed with great Simplicity, Act_4:24<\/p>\n
4. They Prayed, expecting an Answer, Act_4:29-31<\/p>\n
5. They Prayed and Fasted together, Act_10:30, Act_15:3, Act_14:23<\/p>\n
6. They Prayed and received Revelations, Act_7:55-56, Act_10:9-11, Act_22:17<\/p>\n
7. They Prayed before parting, Act_13:3, Act_20:36, Act_21:5<\/p>\n
III.-APOSTOLIC COURAGE.<\/p>\n
They had courage-<\/p>\n
1. To Preach doctrines that were despised, Act_4:2<\/p>\n
2. To Rebuke sinners in high places, Act_4:11, Act_5:30<\/p>\n
3. To Speak the whole Counsel of God, Act_20:27, Act_4:20<\/p>\n
4. To Stand amidst Persecution, Act_8:1<\/p>\n
5. To Live above the fear of man, Act_5:29, Act_4:19<\/p>\n
6. To Hazard their lives for Christ’s sake, Act_15:26, Act_20:24<\/p>\n
7. The Secret of this Courage, Act_1:8, Act_13:4<\/p>\n
IV.-APOSTOLIC POWER<\/p>\n
I.-The Nature of this Power<\/p>\n
1. It was not Social power, Act_2:7<\/p>\n
2. It was not Monetary power, Act_3:6<\/p>\n
3. It was not Intellectual power, Act_4:13<\/p>\n
4. It was Spiritual power, Act_1:8, Act_6:10<\/p>\n
II.-The Manifestations of this Power. <\/p>\n
By the Power of the Holy Ghost-<\/p>\n
1. The Coward is made Courageous, Act_2:14<\/p>\n
2. The Sinner is Convicted and Humbled, Act_2:37-38<\/p>\n
3. The Persecuted is Satisfied with Glory, Act_7:55<\/p>\n
4. The Perplexed is Answered and Guided, Act_8:29, Act_16:9<\/p>\n
5. The Convert is Empowered for Service, Act_9:17-20<\/p>\n
6. The Servant is Separated and Sent, Act_13:2-4<\/p>\n
7. The Enemy is Fearlessly Denounced, Act_13:9-10<\/p>\n
V.-APOSTOLIC TESTIMONY.<\/p>\n
There is no uncertain sound here. They testified-<\/p>\n
1. That Jesus was the Christ, the Son of God, Act_2:36, Act_9:20<\/p>\n
2. That God raised Him from the dead, Act_3:15, Act_4:33<\/p>\n
3. That His Name has power to heal through Faith , Act_3:16<\/p>\n
4. That Salvation is Only in His Name, Act_4:12<\/p>\n
5. That Christ is the God-Ordained Judge of all, Act_10:42<\/p>\n
6. That all believers are Justified from all things, Act_13:39<\/p>\n
7. That all believers should receive the Gift of the Holy Ghost , Act_2:39, Act_19:2<\/p>\n
VI.-APOSTOLIC SUCCESS.<\/p>\n
They succeeded-<\/p>\n
1. In Receiving the Promise of the Father, Act_1:4, Act_2:4<\/p>\n
2. In Converting sinners unto God, Act_2:41, Act_4:4<\/p>\n
3. In Working Miracles of Grace, Act_3:7, Act_16:18<\/p>\n
4. In bringing Answers to their Prayers, Act_4:31, Act_12:5, Act_16:26<\/p>\n
5. In Spreading their doctrine abroad, Act_5:28, Act_5:42<\/p>\n
6. In Getting immediate result through preaching Christ, Act_8:5-8, Act_9:20-21<\/p>\n
7. In Raising persecution because of their faithfulness, Act_4:21, Act_13:50-52, Act_14:2, Act_17:32<\/p>\n
8. In doing the work given them to do, Act_26:18<\/p>\n
