A SEARCH FOR ONE THING.<\/p>\n
Psa_27:4.<\/p>\n
All men are seekers. What seekest thou?<\/p>\n
I. What this One Thing Was. Not any earthly object. It was fellowship with God. He sought this-<\/p>\n
1. Because he was reconciled to God.<\/p>\n
2. Because he loved the company of God.<\/p>\n
3. Because he had a resemblance to God.<\/p>\n
II. Why He Sought This. For two reasons.<\/p>\n
1. To See His Beauty. He is altogether lovely. There is great beauty in His Person-divine and human; in His character-holy, pitiful, mighty; in His work as Prophet, Priest, King. This is a beauty that never fades. Human forms, pleasures, and possessions will wither. Thou remainest. Seek His beauty; He can put it on thee.<\/p>\n
2. To Inquire in His Temple. He was an anxious inquirer, seeking the truth of God from God’s own lips. Christ is the great Teacher come from God. He says, "Learn of Me" (Mat_11:29). They shall be all taught of God. His teaching gives rest-rest above all the problems of life-soul satisfaction.<\/p>\n
III. How He Sought this One Thing.<\/p>\n
1. He Sought it Earnestly. All his desire centred in this one thing. He had the single eye.<\/p>\n
2. He Sought it Determinately. "That will I seek after." He will not cease till he finds.<\/p>\n
3. He Sought it Successfully. This we may be assured of, because he sought it from the Lord. "Seek and ye shall find" (Mat_7:7).<\/p>\n
