LIFE AND ABUNDANCE.<\/p>\n
"I am come that they might have life, and that they might have abundance" (Joh_10:10, R. V., margin).<\/p>\n
1. A great need. "That they might have life." It is-<\/p>\n
1. Universal. "As in Adam all die" (Gen_2:17). "By one man’s offence death reigned" (Rom_5:17).<\/p>\n
2. Vital. It is a death and life question (Rom_6:23). "You hath He quickened who were dead" (Eph_2:1).<\/p>\n
2. A marvellous condescension. "I am come."<\/p>\n
1. The Person. "I." He by whom the worlds were made (Joh_1:3). The eternal and beloved Son, the image of the invisible God. The Word made flesh.<\/p>\n
2. The purpose. "That they might have life." "He hath brought life and immortality to light" (2Ti_1:10). He came not to be ministered unto, but to give His life a ransom for many. "He that hath the Son hath life" (1Jn_5:11-12).<\/p>\n
3. An ample provision. "That they might have abundance." That is-<\/p>\n
1. Abundance of life. Life, in all its fulness, as a branch in the living vine, drawing its life from a living source, as a member of His body. The woman who touched the hem of His garment got life abundantly.<\/p>\n
2. Abundance to meet the needs of that life. In Him there is all-sufficiency to satisfy the daily wants, and to sustain amid all the trials and temptations of that new life. "My God shall supply all your need" (Php_4:19).<\/p>\n
