VAIN HOPE.<\/p>\n
Many are familiar with that very pathetic picture called "The lang awa’ ship." The young maiden is seen sitting on a rock, with her left hand above her eyes, looking most pitifully across a shipless ocean.<\/p>\n
"Wearisome long the maiden must wait,<\/p>\n
Months and years ere her watching be o’er,<\/p>\n
For a lover that never will come to land,<\/p>\n
For a ship that never will touch the shore."<\/p>\n
Such is not the hope of the Christian, for hath Christ not said, "I will come again, and receive you unto Myself!" (Joh_14:3). But, like this maiden, may we watch for the coming of Him whom we love, and who at His coming will bless us with the glory of His eternal presence.<\/p>\n
