The Remedy provided.

"Call upon me," &c. Observe,

1. The object of our address.

God. Not to contend with trouble in our own wisdom, and strength, and self-sufficiency; but to go to God. Not to sink down, and allow them to overwhelm us. Not to trust in an arm of flesh. God is his people’s refuge, and help, &c.; fortress, strong tower, &c. Notice,

2. The mode of address specified.

We must "call upon him;" make known our requests; seek his gracious aid; supplicate his immediate help. We must do this humbly, earnestly, in faith, and with perseverance, 2Co_12:7-9. Notice,

3. The time of our address is also stated.

We must call upon him "in the day of trouble." Not delay. God is ever near; and never afar off. Day of trouble is the time when we need help; lest we be destroyed by our adversaries. God a present help, &c. Observe,

III. The Deliverance promised.

"I will deliver thee."

1. God can deliver us.

Wisdom and ability sufficient. Nothing too hard for the Lord. "Who can harm us?" &c. "If God be for us," &c. "Greater is he that is for us," &c.

2. God has always delivered his people.

Abraham. Jacob. Job. Children of Israel from Egypt, and their enemies in the wilderness. David. Daniel. Three Hebrews, &c. He never failed to plead his people’s cause. Psalms 105; Psalms 107; Psa_118:5, Psa_118:13.

3. God will deliver us.

He desires to do it. He loves to do it. He is pledged to do it. He is bound by his word; by his faithfulness, and by his covenant, to do it. But it must be in his own way’97by his own means’97and at his own time.

IV. The Return demanded.

"And thou shalt glorify me."

1. By celebrating his delivering goodness.

Song of Deborah. Many of the Psa. s, &c. Pillar, Ebenezer.

2. By implicitly trusting him at all times.

God is greatly honored, when his people confide in him.

3.
