The Meeting<\/p>\n
"And Isaac went out to meditate in the field at eventide: and he lifted up his eyes, and saw, and, behold, the camels were coming.<\/p>\n
"And Rebekah lifted up her eyes, and when she saw Isaac, she lighted off the camel" (Gen_24:63-64).<\/p>\n
What joy! What a happy meeting! Isaac lifted up his eyes–he was eagerly waiting the day of her coming. Rebekah lifted up her eyes–she eagerly anticipated the day of his coming forth to meet her.<\/p>\n
And it is true–the Lord says: "Behold, I come quickly" and we respond, "Even so come, Lord Jesus." If we are filled with joyous anticipation, so is He. If we are here looking for the day of His return, He is there, at the Father’s right hand, expecting, until the day of His return.<\/p>\n
The Second Coming of Christ and the blessed meeting in the air can be no more precious to us than it is to Him. We call it our "blessed hope" and so it is; but it is also His blessed hope. We think of His coming as our entrance upon our inheritance–we are to be heirs of God and joint-heirs with Jesus Christ: He thinks of the riches "of His inheritance in the saints," and so He too longs for the hour of the meeting in the air.<\/p>\n

For the langed-for hame-bringin’,<\/p>\n
An’ my Father’s welcome smiles;<\/p>\n
An’ I’ll ne’er be fu’ content<\/p>\n

I’ the glory o’ His presence<\/p>\n

A wee birdie to its nest,<\/p>\n
I wad fain be gangin’ noo<\/p>\n
Unto my Saviour’s breast;<\/p>\n
For He gathers in His bosom<\/p>\n
Witless, worthless lambs like me,<\/p>\n
An’ carries them Himsel’<\/p>\n
To His ain countrie.<\/p>\n
He is faithfu’ that hath promised,<\/p>\n
An’ He’ll shurely come again,<\/p>\n
He’ll keep His tryst wi’ me–<\/p>\n
At what hour I dinna ken;<\/p>\n
But He bids me still to wait,<\/p>\n
An’ ready aye to be<\/p>\n
To gang at ony moment<\/p>\n
To my ain countrie.<\/p>\n
Sae I’m watchin’, aye, an’ singin’<\/p>\n
O’ my hame as I wait<\/p>\n
For the soun’in’ o’ His futfa’<\/p>\n
This side the gowden gate;<\/p>\n
God gie His grace to ilka ane<\/p>\n
Wha listens noo to me,<\/p>\n
That we a’ may gang in gladness<\/p>\n
To oor ain countrie.<\/p>\n
