Is Christ Sure to Come?<\/p>\n
"If I go, * * I will come again" (Joh_14:3).<\/p>\n
Twenty centuries ago, our Lord was talking in the upper room to His disciples. He plainly said, "If I go, * * I will come again" (Joh_14:3).<\/p>\n
When He disappeared from the Mount of Olives, and a cloud received Him out of their sight, two shining ones stood near and said, "This same Jesus * * shall so come again in like manner as ye have seen Him go into Heaven" (Act_1:11).<\/p>\n
Will He come again? Why ask such a question?<\/p>\n
The very honor and the integrity of Jesus Christ depends upon His coming again. If He comes not, His Word is broken and His character is gone.<\/p>\n
Jesus Christ came once; why not come again?<\/p>\n
Jesus Christ once moved among the peoples of this earth; why not move among them once more?<\/p>\n
He came once and began His work; why not return and complete it?<\/p>\n
He came once and wore a crown of thorns; why not come and wear a crown of glory?<\/p>\n
For His coming, His own people Israel, are dependent for the fulfillment of their national hope.<\/p>\n
For His coming, the physical earth is groaning and travailing in pain, waiting to be delivered.<\/p>\n
For His coming, the Church is ardently waiting.<\/p>\n
Surely, He will come again!<\/p>\n
How comforting are the words, "For yet a little while, and the coming One will come, and will not tarry" (Heb_10:37).<\/p>\n
The Heavens have received Him, until the times of the restitution of all things. After this, He will return (see Act_3:21).<\/p>\n
In Romans, we read that "the Deliverer shall come out of Zion, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob" (Rom_11:26).<\/p>\n
In Corinthians we read "We shall all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye" (1Co_15:51-52).<\/p>\n
In Philippians we read, "We look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ, Who shall change our vile body, and fashion it like unto the body of His glory" (Php_3:20-21).<\/p>\n
In Thessalonians we read, "The Lord Himself shall descend from Heaven" (1Th_4:16).<\/p>\n
In Timothy, we read, "All those who love His approaching" (2Ti_4:8).<\/p>\n
In Titus, we read, "Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the Great God and our Saviour, Jesus Christ" (Tit_2:13).<\/p>\n
In James we read, "The coming of the Lord draweth nigh" (Jam_5:8).<\/p>\n
In Peter, we read, "The power and the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ" (2Pe_1:16).<\/p>\n
In John we read: "When He shall appear, we shall be like Him" (1Jn_3:2).<\/p>\n
In Jude we read, "The presence of His glory" (Jdg_1:24).<\/p>\n
In Revelation, we read, "Behold, He cometh with clouds" (Rev_1:7).<\/p>\n
Surely Christ will come again. Such an array of Scriptures cannot be ruthlessly set aside.<\/p>\n
"Impatient heart, be still!<\/p>\n
What though He tarries long?<\/p>\n
What though the triumph song<\/p>\n
Is still * * delayed?<\/p>\n
Thou hast His promise sure,<\/p>\n
And that is all secure:<\/p>\n
Be not afraid! Be not afraid!<\/p>\n
Be still!** be still!**<\/p>\n
Impatient heart, * * be still!"<\/p>\n
My eager heart, be still!<\/p>\n
Thy Lord will surely come,<\/p>\n
And take thee to His Home,<\/p>\n
With Him * * to dwell:<\/p>\n
It may not be to-day;<\/p>\n
And yet, my soul, it may–<\/p>\n
I cannot tell! I cannot tell!<\/p>\n
Be still! * *be still! * *<\/p>\n
My eager heart, * * be still!<\/p>\n
My anxious heart, be still!<\/p>\n
Watch, work, and pray: and then<\/p>\n
It will not matter when<\/p>\n
Thy Lord * * shall come,<\/p>\n
At midnight or at noon:<\/p>\n
He cannot come too soon<\/p>\n
To take thee Home: to take thee Home.<\/p>\n
Be still! * * be still! **<\/p>\n
My anxious heart, * * be still!"<\/p>\n
