We have been to Vanderbilt’s estate in North Carolina, and we have seen nature marvelously beautified, but with what labor and what toil and with what expense!

Irrigation, cultivation and fertilization have done much in aiding the earth to bring forth and bud, still, alas, we still have our sweeping storms and blistering suns; we still have the thorns and the thistles.

The boll weevil wrecks our cotton; the San Jose scale our peach crop; the Johnson grass, our standing corn.

The animal world also is still under the curse. The lion and the bear are still ravenous, the serpent bites and the adder stings. Man has trained a few animals with marked success. The circus carries a menagerie from city to city, but every one knows that a lion caged, is a lion still.

But, when the King comes back, the earth will be delivered from its bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.

Then the plowman will overtake the reaper and he that soweth the seed will follow close upon him who gathereth the corn.

The hills will drop with new wine. The deserts will bloom and blossom as the rose. Instead of the thorn will come up the fir tree; instead of the brier will come up the myrtle tree.

The lion will eat straw like an ox; the cow and the bear will feed together and a little child will lead them. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all God’s holy mountains.

So why not speak a word about the bringing back of the King?

Can all travail,

The cry, the wail

Of nature end, its thistles fail,

Till Jesus comes?

No, but the land,

Under God’s hand,

Redeemed, renewed and blest shall stand,

When Jesus comes.

Autor: R.E.
