Christ Interpreted the Father in His Will<\/p>\n
"I came down from Heaven, not to do Mine own will, but the will of Him that sent Me" (Joh_6:38).<\/p>\n
It was utterly impossible for Jesus Christ to do anything of Himself, or to do anything separate from the will of God. He bore witness: "I can of Mine own self do nothing; I do not Mine own will, but the will of the Father that sent Me" (Joh_5:30).<\/p>\n
From the day that the little Infant lay in the manger until the day that Christ ascended up, and a cloud received Him out of sight, He did always the Father’s will. He said: "He that sent Me is with Me * * I do always those things that please Him" (Joh_8:29).<\/p>\n
When we desire to know, therefore, God’s will, we will always find it manifested in the will of Christ. If Jesus Christ said, "I am the Door; by Me if any man enter in, he shall be saved," He plainly manifested that "God is not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance."<\/p>\n
The "whosoever" of Christ, was no broader than the "whosoever" of God. The yearnings of Christ toward a world lost in sin, were no deeper than the yearnings of the heart of God toward a world lost in sin.<\/p>\n
1. The will of Christ toward Israel was the same as the will of God toward Israel.<\/p>\n
Jesus Christ wept over the beloved city and said: "If thou hadst known, even thou, at least in this thy day, the things that belong to thy peace" (Luk_19:42).<\/p>\n
Jesus Christ with His heart full of pity cried: "O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, * * how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings" (Mat_23:37).<\/p>\n
In these two scenes, Christ breathed forth the same tender compassion toward Israel, that God the Father manifested when He said: "How shall I give thee up, Ephraim? how shall I deliver thee, Israel? how shall I make thee as Admah? how shall I set thee as Zeboim? Mine heart is turned within Me; My repentings are kindled together" (Hos_11:8).<\/p>\n
2. The will of Christ toward the redeemed is the same as the will of God toward the redeemed. Jesus Christ gave His life for His sheep; and He could truly say: "Therefore doth My Father love Me, because I lay down My life" (Joh_10:17).<\/p>\n
Jesus Christ said, concerning His sheep,–"They shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of My hand;" He also said, "My Father, which gave them Me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of My Father’s hand. I and My Father are one" (Joh_10:28-30).<\/p>\n
Jesus Christ said, "I will love Him and will manifest Myself unto him." He also said: "My Father will love him, and We will come unto him, and make Our abode with him" (Joh_14:21, Joh_14:23).<\/p>\n
Jesus Christ said: "Father, I will that they also whom Thou hast given Me, be with Me where I am, that they may behold My glory" (Joh_17:24). Peter said: "But the God of all grace, Who hath called us unto His eternal glory" (1Pe_5:10).<\/p>\n
Thus, every plan and purpose of God is yea and amen in Christ Jesus.<\/p>\n
Every will of God, every elective and predestinating purpose of God is established in Christ Jesus.<\/p>\n
Christ had no will apart from God,<\/p>\n
Whate’er He did, where’er He trod,<\/p>\n
When peace He spake, or used the rod–<\/p>\n
He manifested–told out God.<\/p>\n
