The Holy Spirit is using Israel's experiences in the wilderness, as a type or pattern to us who believe.<\/p>\n
"These things happened unto them as types, and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages are come" (1Co_9:11, \\1911 Bible).<\/p>\n
The purpose of this type is that we should not walk in carnalities as Israel walked.<\/p>\n
The type begins with Israel's baptism: "Our fathers * * were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea."<\/p>\n
The type continues with the Lord's Supper: "Our fathers * * did all eat the same spiritual meat; and did all drink the same spiritual drink."<\/p>\n
Then comes the sad statement: "But with many of them God was not well pleased."<\/p>\n
The leader should impress that present-day believers may be saved by the Blood (as Israel was saved by the blood sprinkled on the door-post and side posts); that they may be baptized (as Israel was baptized in type); that they may eat in remembrance of the Lord's broken body and shed Blood (as Israel ate in type) and yet they may displease God.<\/p>\n
Alas, that so many who are saved seem to walk in the wilderness and to live in the lusts of the flesh.<\/p>\n
May God make this lesson a help to all, and lead us out of carnalities and into spirituality.<\/p>\n
