Job Covered with Ashes<\/p>\n
"And he took him a potsherd to scrape himself withal; and he sat down among the ashes" (Job_2:8).<\/p>\n
The picture we have before us is a picture of untold humiliation. How different is the vision of Job sitting among the ashes, to the vision of Job as described in chapter 29!<\/p>\n
Job thus recounts his past: "I washed my steps with butter, and the rock poured me out rivers of oil; when I went out to the gate through the city, when I prepared my seat in the street! The young men saw me, and hid themselves: and the aged arose, and stood up. * * I delivered the poor that cried, * * The blessing of him that was ready to perish came upon me: and I caused the widow's heart to sing for joy. I put on righteousness, and it clothed me."<\/p>\n
Now Job, the man who once had plenty, who once was so greatly loved, becomes impoverished and sits alone.<\/p>\n
The type is plain, the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God, Who lived in the presence of the Highest, Who was worshiped of angels, became in fashion as a man and humbled Himself.<\/p>\n
He walked along the way to the Cross, and was crucified. Think of the ignominy He suffered: the Bible says that He bore shame and spitting.<\/p>\n
There hung the Son of God, exposed to the gazing glare of a mocking crowd. His wounds were inflamed, His nerves were stretched, and His visage was marred.<\/p>\n
Yet, our Lord despised the shame, and endured the Cross.<\/p>\n
