What the Prophets Claimed for Their Writings<\/p>\n
"To whom the word of the Lord came in the days of Josiah the son of Amon king of Judah, in the thirteenth year of his reign" (Jer_1:2).<\/p>\n
The Prophets all claimed the inspiration of God.<\/p>\n
Hear the words of Jeremiah; "Then the Lord put forth His hand, and touched my mouth. And the Lord said unto me, Behold, I have put My words in thy mouth" (Jer_1:9).<\/p>\n
Hear the words of Isaiah; "The vision of Isaiah the son of Amoz * * Hear, O Heavens, and give ear, O earth; * * for the Lord hath spoken" (Isa_1:1-2). Isaiah claimed inspiration at least twenty times, when he calls his words, the "Word of the Lord."<\/p>\n
Hear the words of Ezekiel, "Son of man, stand upon thy feet, and I will speak unto thee." "Son of man, all My words that I shall speak unto thee receive in thine heart, and hear with thine ears, * * speak unto them,–and tell them, Thus saith the Lord God" (Eze_2:1; Eze_3:10-11).<\/p>\n
We could quote more than fifty statements from Ezekiel where we read the expression "The word of God," or "The word of the Lord."<\/p>\n
It is unnecessary for us to go through all the Prophets in this same way. What is true of one Prophet, is true of them all. Let us merely summarize their claims:<\/p>\n
Dan_10:9 : "I heard the voice of his words." <\/p>\n
Hos_1:1 : "The word of the Lord that came unto Hosea." <\/p>\n
Joe_1:1 : "The word of the Lord that came to Joel." <\/p>\n
Amo_3:1 : "Hear this word that the Lord hath spoken." <\/p>\n
Oba_1:1 : "Thus saith the Lord God." <\/p>\n
Jon_1:1 : "The word of the Lord came unto Jonah." <\/p>\n
Mic_1:1 : "The word of the Lord that came to Micah." <\/p>\n
Nah_1:12 : "Thus saith the Lord." <\/p>\n
Hab_2:2 : "And the Lord answered me, and said." <\/p>\n
Zep_1:1 : "The word of the Lord which came unto Zephaniah." <\/p>\n
Hag_1:1 : "The word of the Lord by Haggai the prophet." <\/p>\n
Zec_1:1 : "The word of the Lord unto Zechariah." <\/p>\n
Mal_1:1 : "The burden of the word of the Lord." <\/p>\n
Men may criticise the Word of God if they wish, but we believe it brings a message from Heaven; we believe that, from every viewpoint, it is trustworthy and dependable.<\/p>\n
