42. \u201cBe\u201d<\/p>\n
The commands of the Lord are always imperative. They leave no choice with us, but to choose His choice.<\/p>\n
1. \u201cBe Holy.\u201d \u201cBe ye holy in all manner of conversation\u201d (1Pe_1:15-16), and the reasons are, \u201cBecause\u201d God is \u201cHoly,\u201d and because He calls us to this devoted life in separation to Him.<\/p>\n
2. \u201cBe Perfect.\u201d (2Co_13:11). \u201cPerfect\u201d means to be in joint, to be adjusted, and is used of nets being mended\u2014Mat_4:21, of being \u201cjoined together\u201d (1Co_1:10), and of one being restored to what he was before\u2014Gal_6:1.<\/p>\n
3. \u201cBe Still\u201d (Psa_46:10). The secret of knowing God is to be still in humbleness before Him, and let every voice but His be hushed.<\/p>\n
4. \u201cBe Sober.\u201d \u201cBe sober,\u201d that is, hold oneself in hand, so that others shall not take us unawares\u20141Pe_5:8.<\/p>\n
5. \u201cBe Faithful\u201d (Rev_2:10). When faith and love burn within the temple of our being, faithfulness will characterise the life.<\/p>\n
6. \u201cBe Glean.\u201d \u201cBe ye clean that bear the vessels of the Lord\u201d (Isa_52:11). If the heart of the inner life is clean the hand of outward service will correspond.<\/p>\n
7. \u201cBe Filled\u201d in the Spirit\u2014Eph_5:18. This is the most essential, for when the Spirit pervades the being, the atmosphere of His presence will be known.<\/p>\n
