131. Christ\u2019s Coming<\/p>\n
The words \u201ctherefore\u201d and \u201cwherefore\u201d in connection with Christ\u2019s Coming, give us reasons for our attitude in relation to His return.<\/p>\n
1. The \u201ctherefore\u201d of \u201cwatch.\u201d Because of those who are \u201cperverse,\u201d and that the Lord may reward us, be on the alert against the evil, and alive to the future \u201cinheritance\u201d\u2014Act_20:31, Act_20:32.<\/p>\n
2. The \u201cwherefore\u201d of acceptability. \u201cWherefore\u201d we labour, or \u201cmake it our aim,\u201d that we may be \u201cwell-pleasing\u201d to the Lord when we stand before His judgment seat\u20142Co_5:9-10, R.V.<\/p>\n
3. The \u201cwherefore\u201d of \u201ccomfort\u201d and edification. Because we are going to \u201clive with\u201d Christ, we are to be mutually interested in each other\u2019s welfare\u20141Th_5:11.<\/p>\n
4. The \u201cwherefore\u201d of \u201cgrace.\u201d Because of the grace that we are to experience at the revelation of our Lord, we are to gird up the loins of our mind, set the hope perfectly, and be sober (1Pe_1:13).<\/p>\n
5. The \u201cwherefore\u201d of calling. If we make our calling sure by adding to our faith what the Lord enjoins, He will add to us an abundant entrance into the everlasting Kingdom at His return\u20142Pe_1:10, 2Pe_1:11.<\/p>\n
6. The \u201cwherefore\u201d of remembrance. We are apt to forget \u201cthese things\u201d which relate to our present duty, and future glory of His Kingdom\u20142Pe_1:12-19.<\/p>\n
7. The \u201cwherefore\u201d of blamelessness. The righteous character of the new Heavens and the new earth should exercise such an influence upon us, that we should be like them in character\u20142Pe_3:14.<\/p>\n
