140. Christ\u2019s Death\u2014Eight Questions<\/p>\n
1. For whom did Christ die? Christ is said to have died for \u201csinners\u201d and for the \u201cungodly,\u201d and that God\u2019s \u201cenemies\u201d are reconciled to Him by the death of His Son\u2014Rom_5:6, Rom_5:8, Rom_5:10.<\/p>\n
2. For what did He die? \u201cOur sins.\u201d \u201cHe died for our sins according to the Scriptures\u201d (1Co_15:3).<\/p>\n
3. Why did Christ come into the world? To \u201cput away sin by the sacrifice of Himself\u201d (Heb_9:26). \u201cHe was manifested to take away our sins\u201d (1Jn_3:5).<\/p>\n
4. Did God have anything to do with that death for sin? He made \u201cHis soul an offering for sin\u201d (Isa_53:10). \u201cHe made Him to be sin for us\u201d (2Co_5:21). \u201cGod sending His Son… by a sacrifice for sin, condemned sin in the flesh\u201d (Rom_8:3, margin).<\/p>\n
5. Did Christ die willingly? \u201cHe gave Himself for our sins\u201d (Gal_1:4).<\/p>\n
6. What did He do with our sins? \u201cBare the sins of many\u201d (Isa_53:12). \u201cOffered to bear the sins of many\u201d (Heb_9:28).<\/p>\n
7. Where did He bear our sins? \u201cIn His own body on the tree\u201d (1Pe_2:24).<\/p>\n
8. Is it necessary for Him to repeat the act? \u201cChrist died (R.V., margin) for sins once\u201d (1Pe_3:18). Offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all\u2014Heb_10:12.<\/p>\n
