155. Christ\u2019s Goal<\/p>\n
Christ unfolds that the purpose of His first advent was His atoning death at Calvary. This may be fully apprehended if we connect, what Luke alone brings out, the references to Jerusalem.<\/p>\n
1. \u201cHis Decease, which He should accomplish at Jerusalem\u201d (Luk_9:31).<\/p>\n
2. \u201cStedfastly set His face to go to Jerusalem\u201d (Luk_9:51).<\/p>\n
3. \u201cHis face was as though He would go to Jerusalem\u201d (Luk_9:53).<\/p>\n
4. \u201cTeaching and journeying toward Jerusalem\u201d (Luk_13:22).<\/p>\n
5. \u201cIt cannot be that a prophet perish out of Jerusalem\u201d (Luk_13:33).<\/p>\n
6. \u201cIt came to pass as He went to Jerusalem\u201d (Luk_17:11).<\/p>\n
7. \u201cBehold, we go up to Jerusalem\u201d (Luk_18:31).<\/p>\n
8. \u201cHe was nigh to Jerusalem\u201d (Luk_19:11).<\/p>\n
9. \u201cHe went before, ascending up to Jerusalem\u201d (Luk_19:28). There are no less than thirty-two references to Jerusalem in Luke\u2019s Gospel, and nearly all of those mentioned, from the transfiguration scene to the accomplishment of His sacrificial atonement on Calvary, have their focus-point in His death.<\/p>\n
