260. Cut<\/p>\n
A Gospel address may be compiled from the relative use of the word \u201ccut.\u201d<\/p>\n
1. Obstacles Removed. \u201cCut down their groves\u201d (Deu_7:5; 2Ch_14:3; 2Ch_31:1; 2Ch_34:7). The groves were identified with idol worship and sin.<\/p>\n
2. Oblation Made. \u201cCut off out of the land of the living\u201d (Isa_53:8; Dan_9:26). Christ\u2019s death was no accident. It was God\u2019s giving, and of God\u2019s laying down, but sin was its cause.<\/p>\n
3. Obstinacy Rebuked. \u201cCut to the heart\u201d (Act_5:33; Act_7:54), or, more correctly, \u201csawn through,\u201d so they were completely confounded.<\/p>\n
4. Offering Parted. \u201cCut the ram in pieces\u201d (Exo_29:17; Lev_8:20). The ram was offered, and the blood of it was applied to Aaron and his sons at their consecration to the priesthood. The several parts of the ram were for Jehovah and the priests (Exo_29:17-28).<\/p>\n
5. Obstruction Uprooted. \u201cCut it down\u201d (Luk_13:7) means to cut out (ek kopto). There is only one thing to do with that which cumbers, and that is, remove the encumbrance\u2014Rev_2:5.<\/p>\n
6. Omnipotence Displayed. \u201cCut out of the mountain\u201d (Dan_2:34, Dan_2:45), which expresses Christ in His might overthrowing the world powers.<\/p>\n
7. Offensive Tongue. \u201cThe froward tongue shall He cut out\u201d (Pro_10:31). The best way to deal with that which is dangerous is to remove it.<\/p>\n
