274. Depression<\/p>\n
It is said Mr. Spurgeon on one occasion was greatly depressed, and that one of the officers asked \u201cthose who had been converted or blessed under his ministry to rise,\u201d and 1200 rose to their feet. \u201cNow,\u201d said the Deacon, \u201cI charge you all to pray for your pastor.\u201d<\/p>\n
Many of God\u2019s servants have got into the mire of depression, and we have the record of some of their experiences, that we may avoid their depressions.<\/p>\n
1. David: \u201cI shall one day perish by the hand of Saul\u201d (1Sa_27:1).<\/p>\n
2. Job: \u201cWhy died I not from the womb?\u201d (Job_3:11).<\/p>\n
3. Elijah: \u201cO Lord, take away my life\u201d (1Ki_19:4).<\/p>\n
4. Moses: \u201cI am not able to bear all this people\u201d (Num_11:14).<\/p>\n
5. Psalmist: \u201cI watch, and am as a sparrow alone upon the housetop\u201d (Psa_102:7).<\/p>\n
6. Jeremiah: \u201cBehold, O Lord, for I am in distress\u201d (Lam_1:20).<\/p>\n
7. Jonah: \u201cIt is better for me to die than to live\u201d (Jon_4:8).<\/p>\n
Discontent and disappointment often lead to discouragement, and discouragement leads to depression, and these together will breed despair.<\/p>\n
