312. \u201cEven So\u201d<\/p>\n
The \u201ceven so\u201d in the following passages indicated a consequence of a certain action or a correspondence of one thing in answering to another.<\/p>\n
1. Provision. \u201cEven so must the Son of Man be lifted up\u201d (Joh_3:14). As the brazen serpent was the medium whereby life was brought to the bitten Israelites, so Christ by the means of His vicarious death brings eternal life to those who believe in Him.<\/p>\n
2. Corruption. As a beautiful tomb may cover a corrupting body, \u201ceven so\u201d an hypocrite \u201coutwardly appears righteous unto men\u201d (Mat_23:27-28). The whitewashed exterior is no evidence that the inside is washed white. The outward profession is no guarantee of pureness of heart and holiness of life.<\/p>\n
3. Identification. The practical outcome of being identified with the risen Christ is walking in the power of His risen life, for \u201cas Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life\u201d (Rom_6:4). Oneness with Christ is proven by correspondence to Him.<\/p>\n
4. Presentation. \u201cAs ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity, unto iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness, unto holiness\u201d (Rom_6:19). This yielding is definite in its crisis, and progressive in its process.<\/p>\n
5. Correspondence. \u201cAs the Father gave Me commandment, even so I do\u201d (Joh_14:31). He is the Model for our making, and the Magnet for our moving.<\/p>\n
6. Consequence. \u201cYe shall know them by their fruits… even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit\u201d (Mat_7:16-17). Correspondence to Christ is proof we are indwelt by the Spirit.<\/p>\n
7. Acquiescence. \u201cEven so, Father\u201d (Mat_11:26). Christ\u2019s acquiescence is the example for our response, so we do well to say \u201ceven so\u201d to all He says\u2014Rev_16:7; Rev_22:20.<\/p>\n
