Evidences of Life

Or, the Christian’s Wardrobe

At one of the railway stations in the North of England, a man, whose clothes were covered with lime, got into one of the carriages of a train. He was evidently employed in a neighbouring lime-kiln. His fellow-passengers made room for him, and inly wished him in another compartment, by himself, as, brushing against them, he left his mark upon one and another. Far from scorning the travelling toiler, who had an equal right with ourselves to the use of the carriage, we are indebted to him for a practical lesson. As the Lord’s children, let us be so clad that, wherever we go we shall leave a lasting impression behind us. A man is often known by the clothes he wears; here is an inventory of a Christian’s wardrobe:

1. “The armour of light” (Rom_13:12).

2. “The Lord Jesus Christ” (Rom_13:14).

3. “The whole armour of God” (Eph_6:11).

4. “The breastplate of righteousness” (Eph_6:14).

5. “The breastplate of faith” (1Th_5:8).

6. “The heart of compassion” (R.V.), “kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering” (Col_3:12).

7. “Love” (Col_3:14).

If these were worn by Christians, under all circumstances, we should be able to make a deeper impression than we do at present upon those with whom we come in contact.

By: DR.
