318. Evidences That \u201cWe Know\u201d<\/p>\n
The following \u201cHereby we know\u2019s\u201d are tests as to our knowledge of spiritual things:<\/p>\n
1. Obedience the Proof of Knowledge. \u201cHereby we do know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments\u201d (1Jn_2:3).<\/p>\n
2. Faithfulness the Proof of Allegiance. \u201cWhoso keepeth His Word, in Him verily is the love of God perfected; hereby know we that we are in Him\u201d (1Jn_2:5).<\/p>\n
3. Love the Proof of Faith. \u201cHereby know we love, because He laid down His life for us, and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren\u201d (1Jn_3:16, R.V.).<\/p>\n
4. Christly Action the Ground of Assurance. \u201cHereby shall we know… and shall assure our hearts\u201d (1Jn_3:19; 1Jn_5:2).<\/p>\n
5. Commandments Kept, the Proof of Abiding in Him. \u201cHe that keepeth His commandments abideth in Him… hereby we know,\u201d etc. (1Jn_3:24, R.V.; 1Jn_4:13).<\/p>\n
