402. Good Cheer for Believers<\/p>\n
Seven times the Lord gives the cheering salutation, \u201cBe of good cheer.\u201d Once indirectly, and six times directly.<\/p>\n
1. Sins Forgiven. \u201cSon, be of good cheer; thy sins are forgiven\u201d (Mat_9:2). The past annihilated by the Christ of Calvary.<\/p>\n
2. Faith Honoured. \u201cDaughter, be of good cheer; thy faith hath made thee whole\u201d (Mat_9:22, R.V.). Life and health come by contact with the living Christ.<\/p>\n
3. Fears Banished. \u201cBe of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid\u201d (Mat_14:27).<\/p>\n
\u201cThe word of His grace all fears doth efface;<\/p>\n
Not one can live in the light of His face.\u201d<\/p>\n
4. Feebleness Met. \u201cBe of good cheer; rise, He calleth thee\u201d (Mar_10:49, R.V.). The word of Christ put new life into him, for he \u201csprang up, and came to Jesus;\u201d and thenceforth Bartimaeus was no longer the beggar sitting, but the disciple following.<\/p>\n
5. Foes Overcome. \u201cIn the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world\u201d (Joh_16:33). The world with its god and Godless course need not daunt us, for Christ can give us deliverance.<\/p>\n
6. Further Service Indicated. \u201cThe Lord stood by him and said, Be of good cheer… thou must bear witness also in Rome\u201d (Act_23:11).<\/p>\n
7. Faith\u2019s Testimony and Blessing. \u201cBe of good cheer… wherefore be of good cheer… Then were they all of good cheer\u201d (Act_27:22, Act_27:25, Act_27:36).<\/p>\n
