The use of \u201choly\u201d as applied to the redeemed is far-reaching and suggestive.<\/p>\n<p>1. Holy Ones, who are called \u201csaints\u201d (Rom_1:7). Not called \u201cto be saints,\u201d but \u201ccalled saints.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The words \u201cto be\u201d are not in original. Believers are named \u201csaints\u201d by God, and because of this are to be saintly.<\/p>\n<p>2. \u201cHoly Scriptures\u201d (Rom_1:2). The Holy Spirit is their Author, and holiness is their product.<\/p>\n<p>3. \u201cHoly Calling\u201d (2Ti_1:9). The vocation of the saint is the opposite to that of the sinner\u2019s. The centre of the latter is self, but the attraction of the other is God.<\/p>\n<p>4. Holy Indwelling. \u201cThe Holy Spirit which dwelleth in us\u201d (2Ti_1:14). To recognise His Holy presence is to experience His sanctifying power.<\/p>\n<p>5. Holy Identification. \u201cChosen in Him&#8230; that we should be holy\u201d (Eph_1:4). As the altar sanctified the gift under the law, so oneness with Christ makes us holy.<\/p>\n<p>6. Holy Keeping. \u201cHoly Father keep\u201d (Joh_17:11), so Christ prays for His own. The Holy One keeps us holy within and righteous without.<\/p>\n<p>7. \u201cHoly Priesthood\u201d (1Pe_2:5). Uncleanness is not tolerated in this priestly service, nor maimed sacrifices in its ministry.<\/p>\n<p>8. \u201cHoly Conversation\u201d (1Pe_1:15; 2Pe_3:11). \u201cConversation,\u201d as R.V., means the whole life.
