482. \u201cJesus Said,\u201d or \u201cHe Saith,\u201d and \u201cHe Said\u201d<\/p>\n
In John 1<\/p>\n
The sayings of Christ contain the message of God to us, they are a mould to shape us in life and service, and they are a magnet to attract and keep us.<\/p>\n
1. He tells us what we are. \u201cHe said, Thou art Simon, the son of Jona\u201d (Joh_1:42). Simon was Peter\u2019s natural name, as identified with his life in nature and sin.<\/p>\n
2. He questions us when we seek Him. \u201cJesus turned… saw…. saith… What seek ye?\u201d (Joh_1:38). Christ is the answer to all questions.<\/p>\n
3. He invites us to dwell with Him. \u201cHe saith unto them, Come and see\u201d (Joh_1:39). If we come to Him we shall want to dwell with Him.<\/p>\n
4. He bids us what to do. \u201cFollow Me\u201d (Joh_1:43). Come, believe, and follow is a triple command from Christ.<\/p>\n
5. He appreciates guilelessness of character. \u201cJesus… saith of him\u201d (Joh_1:47). He saw the guilelessness of Nathaniel, and commended it.<\/p>\n
6. He answers our questions. \u201cJesus answered and said\u201d (Joh_1:48). The approachableness of Christ creates confidence in Him.<\/p>\n
7. He promises more than we expected. \u201cJesus answered and said… Thou shalt see greater things\u201d (Joh_1:50).<\/p>\n
8. He gives us to see the unseeable. \u201cHe saith… Ye shall see\u201d (Joh_1:51). He leads us behind the things that move, and enables us to behold the Power that moves them.<\/p>\n
