560. Millennium Pictured<\/p>\n
In Christ\u2019s Transfiguration<\/p>\n
\u201cHe made known His power and coming\u201d 2Pe_1:16, 2Pe_1:18 We are warranted in saying the transfiguration pictures the Millennium, for Christ said before it, \u201cBut I tell you of a truth there be some standing here which shall not taste of death till they see the Kingdom of God. And it came to pass about eight days after these sayings,\u201d He was transfigured (Luk_9:27-28), and this transfiguration Peter states was prophetic, for He \u201cmade known\u201d \u201cHis power and coming,\u201d \u201cwhen we were with Him in the Holy Mount\u201d (2Pe_1:16-18).<\/p>\n
The whole scene on the Mount and its sequence is full of suggestion.<\/p>\n
1. We have the glorified Christ as the Object of wonder and praise. \u201cWe saw His glory\u201d (Joh_1:14), and as the glorified One He will be seen.<\/p>\n
2. Moses was one of the two who \u201cappeared in glory\u201d (Luk_9:31), and he is a type of those who have fallen asleep, but who will be raised and glorified when Christ comes\u2014Php_3:20, Php_3:21.<\/p>\n
3. Elijah is a type of those who will be alive when Christ returns, and like Elijah will never die, but be caught away to meet Christ in the air\u20141Th_4:17.<\/p>\n
4. Peter, James, and John are typical of the Jewish nation, who will see Christ coming with ten thousand of His holy ones, when He comes to be glorified in His saints\u2014Zec_14:5; 2Th_1:10.<\/p>\n
5. Christ coming down from the Mount with His disciples, and meeting the devil-torn child\u2014Luk_9:37-43, and His emancipating the child from the Devil, is a type of Christ delivering poor demon-possessed humanity when He comes to set up His kingdom, and in delivering the oppressed\u2014Psa_72:4.<\/p>\n
6. Christ sending forth, \u201cafter these things,\u201d the seventy to preach the Gospel of \u201cthe Kingdom of God\u201d (Luk_10:1-11), is typical of that time when the nation of Israel will be proclaimers that Christ reigns.<\/p>\n
7. It was after the seventy had returned and told Christ what they had seen and done, for \u201cin that hour Jesus rejoiced in spirit,\u201d and said, \u201cAll things are delivered to Me of My Father\u201d (Mat_11:12-27).<\/p>\n
