603. \u201cOur Sins\u201d<\/p>\n
There are three things to remember about \u201cour sins\u201d<\/p>\n
1. We Have Sinned. There are sins called \u201ctransgressions,\u201d which are goings beyond God\u2019s law\u2014Num_14:41; there are sins of trespass, which mean unfaithfulness to a trust, and slipping away from God\u2019s requirement\u2014Mat_6:14; there arc sins of iniquity, which denote the perversion of that which is good, and making it bad; hence, being unrighteous\u2014Rom_6:13; there are sins of rebellion, which signify the act of self-will and the clenched fists of opposition\u2014Job_34:37; there are are sins of treachery, which signify an under-current of hypocrisy\u2014Hos_6:7, R.V.; there are sins of omission, that is, neglecting to do what we ought to do, and very often through ignorance\u2014Lev_4:13; there are sins of debt, failing to do our duty, and paying what we owe\u2014Mat_6:12; there are sins of disobedience, failing to respond to God\u2019s word of direction, and generally through unbelief\u2014Col_3:6; and there are sins of failure, that is, missing the mark of God\u2019s Word; hence, \u201call have sinned, and come short of the glory of God\u201d (Rom_3:23).<\/p>\n
2. We Deserve to be Punished Because of our Sins\u2014Lev_26:18, Lev_26:21, Lev_26:24, Lev_26:28. Anyone who breaks the law has to bear the consequence. Frequently we are reminded that the one who sins has to \u201cbear his sin\u201d (Lev_20:20; Lev_24:15; Num_9:13; Num_18:22).<\/p>\n
3. All Sin is Against God. David\u2019s confession\u2014Psa_51:4; the publican\u2019s cry\u2014Luk_18:13; the prodigal\u2019s lament\u2014Luk_15:18; and Saul\u2019s exclamation, all recognise sin is against God\u20141Sa_15:24.<\/p>\n
There are several passages in the New Testament where the words \u201cour sins\u201d occur.<\/p>\n
