617. Paul\u2019s Molestations<\/p>\n
As Seen in the Acts<\/p>\n
Paul was molested in many ways.<\/p>\n
1. He was disturbed by the \u201chardened\u201d hearts of unbelief, and the \u201cevil\u201d speaking against \u201cthat way\u201d (Act_19:9).<\/p>\n
2. A \u201cstir\u201d (Act_19:23) which developed into a storm of opposition which was \u201cfull of wrath\u201d (Act_19:28), and aimless \u201cconfusion\u201d was caused by his witness (Act_19:29-32). The town clerk of Ephesus charged the crowd with doing things \u201crashly\u201d (Act_19:37), and were in danger of being called to give an account for the created \u201cuproar\u201d (Act_19:38-41).<\/p>\n
3. Paul had \u201ctears\u201d and \u201ctemptations\u201d because of the \u201clying in wait of the Jews,\u201d who were like cruel beasts waiting for their prey (Act_20:19).<\/p>\n
4. The outlook was dark with further storms of \u201cbonds and afflictions,\u201d which caused him to be \u201cbound in spirit\u201d<\/p>\n
(Act_20:22-23); and yet amid it all he was careless of his comfort, and buoyantly declared he was not moved by \u201cthese things,\u201d or even of life itself (Act_20:24). His one ambition was to \u201cfinish his course with joy,\u201d like the mariner, who knows he must face the storms ere he reaches the port of safety.<\/p>\n
There are some things we need to remember. If we do right we are sure to meet with opposition. Difficulties are opportunities for God\u2019s deliverances. Temptations prove our metal. Trials sharpen our faith. Seeking the welfare of others will often bring woes to ourselves.<\/p>\n
