Philip, the Evangelist<\/p>\n<p>Acts 8<\/p>\n<p>Philip was not a man to act on his own authority, nor one who sought to carry a mission in his own power. He was a God-sent servant and a Spirit-controlled worker. When the \u201cangel of the Lord\u201d directed Philip to go to a certain place \u201che arose and went\u201d (Act_8:26-27); when \u201cthe Spirit said\u201d to Philip, \u201cSpeak to a certain person,\u201d he obeyed with alacrity (Act_8:29-30); and when the \u201cSpirit of the Lord caught\u201d the evangelist away, he submissively allowed himself to be taken (Act_8:39). In Philip being controlled by the Lord we have the secret of his success in labour.<\/p>\n<p>Other points in the chapter might be pondered as they relate to Philip\u2014<\/p>\n<p>1. His Obedience. \u201cHe arose and went\u201d (Act_8:27).<\/p>\n<p>2. His Alacrity. \u201cPhilip ran\u201d (Act_8:30).<\/p>\n<p>3. His Theme. \u201cPhilip opened his mouth, and preached Jesus\u201d (Act_8:35).<\/p>\n<p>4. His Response. \u201cPhilip said\u201d (Act_8:37).<\/p>\n<p>5. His Service. \u201cHe baptised him\u201d (Act_8:38).<\/p>\n<p>6. His Submissiveness. \u201cPhilip caught away\u201d (Act_8:39).<\/p>\n<p>7.
